Academic Brief
As a timeless children’s author, Enid Blyton’s captivating fictional tales provide an escape for today’s technology-driven children more than ever before. To both celebrate Blyton as a classic author, and to bring her work back into the spotlight, a distinct visual style was devised to be applied to a retrospective set of her most famous stories. A character from each story is given life through the use of elegant typography and illustration. The visual style pays homage to the era of their creation whilst providing a fresh edge in order to appeal to the modern child and their parents. While Enid Blyton projected an idyllic façade to her fans, in reality she was far from this portrayed character. Shadows surrounding the illustrated characters communicate Blyton’s dark and troubled life, giving conceptual depth to the work.
